Types of Orthodontic Treatment
Many people may think that braces are the only option for orthodontic treatment, but in reality, braces are only one of several different types of treatment offered at Walton Orthodontics. Some of our most popular orthodontic treatments include:
- Metal/Traditional Braces
- Surgical Orthodontics
- Accelerated Orthodontics
- And more...
Orthodontic treatment is more than just correcting existing teeth irregularities; it also includes treatment to alleviate any future corrective issues. Some examples of orthodontic treatment are as follows:
- Preventative. Preventative orthodontic exams and regular treatment in young children can assure that permanent teeth will grow in properly.
- Interceptive. If a growth issue is found, interceptive orthodontic treatment can diminish the severity of a malocclusion.
- Comprehensive or Corrective. The use of braces and/or other advanced appliances, comprehensive orthodontic treatment will correct malocclusions.
Causes of Orthodontic Problems
There are various reasons why orthodontic complications can become an issue for a child or an adult. Either too much room or not enough room for teeth in the mouth normally causes malocclusions. If the mouth has too much room due to a lost tooth or any other reason, teeth may grow in crooked or misaligned. If the mouth does not have enough room for teeth due to a small jaw or genetic issues, the teeth will most likely grow in misaligned. Additionally, another cause of orthodontic problems can be oral habits that disrupt the natural growth of the teeth, such as thumb sucking, pacifiers and tongue thrusting.
