The Propel technology is used to speed up the rate of tooth movement. The procedure activates a complex cascade of cellular activity that stimulates the remodeling of bone which is the key event that allows teeth to move. By directly affecting the biology of tooth movement, Propel can increase the rate of tooth movement up to 50%.
Please note that the AcceleSmile system does NOT require the use of Propel Technology to affect it’s decreased treatment time. However, in instances of particularly stubborn tooth movements, the Propel system may be recommended.
The Propel device is used to create small “dental dimples” in the bone around the teeth to speed up the bone remodeling process. This process is called alveocentesis. “Dental dimples” are small bone micro-traumas that cause an increase in inflammatory cytokines that lead to faster bone turnover.
The procedure involves numbing the area with a very strong topical numbing gel and then using the Propel device to create the dental dimples.
