Everyone has heard horror stories about having to visit an orthodontist to have their braces “tightened” and the associated pain.
Because of the forces used to shift the teeth, braces can be uncomfortable. Too much force can actually harm the teeth by causing microtrauma and root resorption, which can limit the movement of the teeth.
A succession of wire adjustments is often necessary to advance traditional orthodontic therapy (as many as six to eight wires). A bigger, stiffer wire is inserted into the bracing with each wire change. The higher force levels and discomfort felt when braces are “tightened” are the result of these numerous wire adjustments.
Dr. Walton’s treatment plan requires only three wire replacements, more than 50% less than anyone else’s, in sharp contrast to conventional orthodontic techniques. As a result, there are notable improvements in treatment effectiveness (reduced treatment time), patient comfort, and a significant reduction in forces acting on the teeth.
